This three-day workshop will prepare you to take the government-administered Pesticide Applicator Certification exam for the Industrial Vegetation and Noxious Weed Control category. The provincial applicator certification exam is included on Day 3 of the course.

This in-person pesticide applicator workshop includes three days of instructor-led training with experienced instructors, math instruction, backpack sprayer calibration training, and the Pesticide Applicator Certification exam at the end of Day 3. The course covers Integrated Pest Management (IPM), legislation regulating pesticide use, invasive species management in BC, safe pesticide handling, and the use of a variety of application equipment.
Venue: Thompson Rivers University, Williams Lake Campus, 1250 Western Ave, Williams Lake, BC V2G 1H7. Please bring a water bottle and your own lunch, or plan to purchase lunch from a nearby restaurant during the lunch break.
NOTE: Completing this workshop does not certify participants as pesticide applicators. To become certified, participants must pass the provincial pesticide certification exam offered on Day 3 of the course. A score of 75% to 100% results in a five-year certification, while a score of 60% to 74% results in a one-year certification.
Study manuals included: Both manuals are required for this workshop. 1. Canadian Pesticide Education Program Applicator Core Manual, British Columbia Edition (2011). 2. Supplementary Information for Industrial Vegetation and Noxious Weed Control Pesticide Applicator Certification (2025). Participants will receive both manuals on Day 1 of the training.
By the end of this course, participants will be able to:
- Explain the legal requirements for pesticide use in BC.
- Describe how pesticides fit within an integrated approach to invasive plant management.
- Perform the steps and calculations required to calibrate application equipment.
- Select and correctly use appropriate personal protective equipment.
- Apply practices that minimize risks to the public and the environment when using pesticides.

Cancellation Policy
REFUND POLICY
Full Refunds:
A full refund will be provided if the cancellation request is received at least 10 business days prior to the course start date.
Partial Refunds:
A 50% refund will be issued if the cancellation request is made between 5 to 9 business days before the course start date.
No refunds will be issued for cancellations made within 5 business days of the course start date.
Course Transfer:
Participants may transfer their registration to a future course or transfer their spot to another individual at no additional cost, provided the request is made at least 5 business days before the course start date.
No-Show Policy:
No refunds or transfers will be granted for participants who fail to attend without prior notice.
Unforeseen Circumstances:
If a participant cannot attend due to unforeseen circumstances (e.g., medical emergencies, family emergencies, or severe weather), they may be entitled to transfer to a future course date or receive a full refund. Documentation may be required to support the claim.
Course Cancellation:
If the course is cancelled by the organizers, a full refund will be provided to all registered participants, or they can choose to transfer their registration to a future course date.
